Birthdays are crazy things.  I actually dread them!  Another year gone by…one year less to accomplish something great (ha!)  I woke up this morning with the thought of just let it (my birthday) pass quietly…ya ya, Im 37 now, lets move on.  Just my luck Im surrounded by people who think differently than I.

First it was my kids.  They fell out of bed with sleepy eyes, blinking back the light and stumbling into the kitchen with smiles and “Happy Birthday”s flying at me from three different directions.  ”You’re 37 mommy!!!  Its the first day that you are 37 years old”  ”Daddy is already 37!  He beat you to being 37!” “Can I come to your party mommy!?”…Yes to children birthdays are joyous happy occasions filled with pizza, cake and presents.  They wear crowns and pins that announce to the world “LOOK AT ME!  Im older!  Im wiser!  Im bigger!  Im becoming someone greater and more important in this world with every single day that passes!”  Who can argue with that…what a gift to see the joy and wonder of growth and possibility in the faces of your children.  Im a lucky mom!

Next, I get in the car to start my day…time to get the kids off to school.  Theres a sweet text from the hubby and a card on my steering wheel.  The card was hilarious…sarcastic just the way I like them…and I laughed out loud prompting the kids to ask “whats so funny?”.  Your daddy thats what!  He always knows exactly how to make me laugh.  Along with the card were 5 Elvis scratch off lottery tickets (I won $52! by the way!).  Hubby knows that as a little girl I LOVED Elvis.  I also got Madonna tickets for my birthday.  Elvis and Madonna!  Thanks Ian for making me feel like a total ROCKSTAR!  What a gift it is that I get to be married to my best friend…a man who knows my sometimes “out there” sense of humor and can make me laugh even in my lowest moment, a man who knows my past and my present inside and out.  Im a lucky wife!

When I got back home from dropping off the kiddos, I walked in the door and snatched up one of the oatmeal raisin cookies (one of my favorites!) that my mom brought by last night along with my annual Birthday Pie.  Every year…for as long as I can remember… she has made me a pumpkin pie for my birthday!  I loooove pumpkin pie and I prefer it 100 times over to cake, so its just become a birthday tradition for me.  Along with the treats came the gifts from my parents and sister and brother.   My family has a pattern when it comes to gifts…something practical and something fun.  The “practical” gift this year was one of those super cool batter dispensers…you know the ones, you put the batter for pancakes or cupcakes in and then you can neatly dispense it out.  The fun gifts were several Scentsy bars, plug in warmer, some yummy soaps and lotion and a gift card to go do some shopping for myself.  What a gift it is to have my family living right across the street!  And soon my sister and her husband and kids will be here too!!  Im a lucky daughter and sister.

Then before picking up Aislyn from school, I headed out to meet up with my sweet friends for coffee/tea.  I really cannot even begin to describe how amazing these ladies are.  Smart, funny, beautiful and real.  We laughed and chatted about a spectrum of things over coffee and tea…I cherish those moments.  My dear friend Melinda gave me the most beautiful antique pitcher…lovely, classic and MADE IN ENGLAND- just like her!!…and old just like me!  I will always treasure this, just as I treasure her friendship.  Another dear friend Mika gave me pretty journal.  I love to record things…all things, whether it be in images or in words.  Its the historian in me.  I feel this need to preserve moments in time big and small.  What a gift to know such wonderful, talented, brilliant ladies!  Love you sooo much Melinda, Krista, Mika, Sondra, Caterina, Rebecca, Carol and Marlene!  We miss you Marlene…you big New Yorker you!  Carol it was so fun to get to catch up last weekend and Rebecca, I will see your pretty face tomorrow, and the rest of you, you absolutely made my day today!  Im a lucky friend!

So here it is barely noon on my 37th birthday and my cup runneth over.
